Improvisation is something very complex but though it is a very simple process, it has been talked about a lot, discussed, and analyzed and so forth.

I am not able to talk about improvisation generally, but I was extremely fortunate to find a very special book in that house in Australia where we recorded Atmo and Bhartis "Love is Wild"  CD. This little paperback, written by Stephen Nachmanovitch and published by Jeremy P. Tarcher/Putnam  is called:

FREE PLAY  Improvisation in Life and Art

This book impressed me in many ways because of its  beautiful way of describing and explaining the magic of a simple thing which many people are  scared of or deny its incredible value.

Well, in case anybody wants to learn more about this subject I would very much recommend this book full of jewels and stories to encourage us improvisers.

As I think back, I always felt very much attracted to this form of living or playing or cooking or building or whatever you might want to do. It's a way of living which seems to collide with all those facts we've learned and grown up with, at least in our western civilisation where everybody is forced to think about the future before acting. This has brought us to the point where we are now. The values switched towards things which might last forever and all efforts are concentrated on growing and assembling more material things which we are told  are necessary for our survival. These facts, which are even drilled into school beginners, are shaping our entire life-programm, hence most of us won't be able to change this attitude and find the space or time to go and play without focusing on a goal.

We have to get beyond this fear, which can be really frightening, and try to get envolved in the moment where everything is possible even without or in spite of our mind. And if then we still can take responsibility for our actions even failures or mistakes which actually are none,  then the playful spirit can take over and we achieve  the only  thing possible: fun and joy in beeing creative.
